How to Store & Reheat Bagels: Keep Them Fresh for Days (or Weeks!)

There’s nothing quite like biting into a freshly baked bagel – whether you’re team plain or partial to a loaded smoked salmon and cream cheese creation. But let’s face it: bagels have a habit of turning from pillowy-soft to hard faster than you can say “spread some love”. Fear not! With a few simple tricks, you can enjoy that just-baked texture for days, or even weeks. Here’s how to store, revive, and reheat your bagels like a pro.

1. The First Rule of Bagel Club? Eat Them Fresh!

Bagels are at their absolute best straight out of the bag or box. No toasting required – simply tear, share, and slather with your favourite toppings (think crispy bacon and egg, or a generous dollop of our spreads). If you do fancy a bit of crunch, slice and pop them in the toaster for a golden finish. But honestly? Fresh bagels are so good, they rarely need it.

2. Reviving Day-Old Bagels - Say Goodbye to Stale

Left your bagels out too long? Don’t panic. A quick revival is easy:

  • The Toaster Method: Slice your bagel (a serrated knife works wonders) and toast until golden. It’ll taste as good as new.
  • The ‘French Baguette’ Hack: Sprinkle the bagel lightly with water and bake in a preheated oven at approx. 200°C for 5 minutes. The steam softens the interior while crisping the crust – magic!

3. Freezing Tips: Fresh Bagels All Week Long

  • Portion and Freeze: Split your dozen into smaller freezer bags (2-4 per bag). This stops them sticking together and lets you grab just what you need.
